What is Stable Squad?

Stable Squad is World Horse Welfare’s very special club for young horse enthusiasts

And we are so pleased that you’re part of our squad!

It’s a fun way to help horses in need, guided by our very own Stable Squad  – Jet, Sage and Crumpet.

We’re on a mission to create a world where all horses are treated with compassion, respect and understanding and it’s great to have YOU on our team!

Ready to earn your rosettes?

Now you’re in the Stable Squad, you’re a part of the World Horse Welfare family, and can help us to create a world where all horses are treated with respect, compassion and understanding.

Earning your rosettes is a fun way of learning loads of important stuff about horse welfare and as you progress through, you’ll pick up lots of fun hints and tips about keeping horses happy and healthy.

You can earn your own rosette badges by completing fun activities about respecting, showing compassion for and understanding horses, and help us to spread our mission to as many people as you can.

What do these words mean?

Respect: we know our words and actions can help or hurt others. This is also true about horses and the world that we share with them. The things we say and do show that we have respect for animals, people and our planet.

Compassion: not everyone has the same experiences or ideas. Being compassionate means that you understand this and try to learn about other’s lives and think how you would feel and behave if you were in their situation. Showing kindness and being inclusive to everyone, even if their life is very different from your own, shows that you are compassionate.

Understanding: learning is important and it can also be fun! Being able to explain the facts about good horse welfare to your family and friends will help to make the world a better place for horses.

Here are some ideas to help you achieve each badge – but remember you don’t have to stick to these suggestions. You can also come up with ideas of your own.

What you need to know about each Rosette Badge

 Respect rosette

Earn your Respect Rosette by showing us how you have helped to create a happy and healthy environment for horses and wild animals.

This could be:

  • Tree and wildflower planting – making sure they’re safe for horses and the natural habitat (you can learn about which plants are dangerous for horses by downloading our free Poisonous Plant Guide here: Ragwort: how to deal with it in a horse paddock – World Horse Welfare).
  • Introducing new recycling or green initiatives at your school or in your community.
  • Taking part in an environmental clean-up.
  • Sending in interesting letters, stories, poems, pictures and original ideas for Stable Squad magazine that helps spread the word amongst your friends, family and local community about good horse welfare and the work of our brilliant charity.

 Compassion rosette

Get your Compassion Rosette by engaging in activities that promote kindness and inclusivity – for our horses, and each other!

This could include:

  • Helping others to learn about good horse welfare by doing a presentation at school or a local club such as your riding school, Pony Club, Girl Guides, Scouts, or other community clubs.
  • Earning a Silver or Green Blue Peter badge, Rainbows Animal Lovers or Brownie Charities badge by doing something about World Horse Welfare.
  • Learning about working horses and their owners in another country and sharing what you’ve learnt with your friends and family.
  • Creating your own campaign encouraging others to show compassion to horses and the environment in the UK and around the world. You could make kindness cards and posters, or run a project about horse welfare with your friends.

 Understanding rosette

To earn your Understanding Rosette you can take our online quiz – but don’t worry, this isn’t like a school test! It will ask you about World Horse Welfare’s mission, what we care about, the 3Fs and the 5 Domains of animal welfare. In other words, how we can make sure horses are happy and healthy.

Though you need to achieve a knowledge score to show you understand horse welfare, you can take the quiz as many times as it takes to get there.

How to claim your Stable Squad Rosette Badges

  • Do your activity
  • Record it as you do it or when you have finished
  • Bring it to a farm or send it to us by email: stablesquad@worldhorsewelfare.org or by post: Stable Squad, World Horse Welfare, Anne Colvin House, Snetterton, Norfolk NR16 2LR

You could send in videos, photographs, or paper versions, or even a letter from a grown-up who saw you do the activity. By sending us your Stable Squad Rosette entries, your parents or guardians agree that we can share your photographs or creations at our farms and online with a caption. No last names will be shared.
